What is Active Release Technique ?
A.R.T. ® is a manual soft-tissue treatment based massage technique, which was developed by Dr. Michael Leahy. It aims to restore normal function between muscles, nerves, ligaments and fascia. Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with ART.
Who can benefit from this technique?
- Anyone eager to optimize their sports performance.
- Anyone in good health trying to prevent injuries
- Anyone suffering overuse injuries.
- Anyone who want to heal faster after an injurie.
What is an overuse injuries?
Over-used muscles (and other soft tissues) change in three important ways:
- acute conditions (pulls, tears, collisions, etc),
- accumulation of small tears (micro-trauma)
- not getting enough oxygen (hypoxia).
Each of these factors can cause your body to produce tough, dense scar tissue in the affected area. This scar tissue binds up and ties down tissues that need to move freely. As scar tissue builds up, muscles become shorter and weaker, tension on tendons causes tendonitis and nerves can become trapped. This can cause reduced range of motion, loss of strength and pain. If a nerve is trapped you may also feel tingling, numbness, and weakness.
Who is qualified to offer you an A.R.T. ® session?
Only a certified practitioner by Dr. Leahy in Active release technique is allowed to offer you this particular care.
How long will it take to recuperate?
To optimize the recuperation, we can combine the sessions with stretching, reinforcing exercises, nutrition modification and supplements. So it varies between three and six sessions depending on the severity of your case.
